VNA Modernizes Communications Platform

VNA 900

VNA of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties Partners with Caleidoscope Solutions.

The  VNA (Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties) replaced legacy PBX equipment with a networked ShoreTel PBX with Brocade Layer 3 PoE switching, on a Comcast Fiber Metro Ethernet WAN.  VNA partnered with Caleidoscope for this major infrastructure improvement.  Also, Caleidoscope has a long track record of excellent service, accessibility, and accountability as a trusted partner.

“Caleidoscope has been an excellent and valued partner for the VNA for over a decade.  They never let us down!”

Arsi Namdar, VP of IT and CIO

First of all, Caleidoscope’s solution includes integrating telecom services with the PBX design in order to provide a single campus architecture.  Hence, the solution connected  all seven VNA sites.  Therefore, this included the main office located at Prim Road in Colchester, Vermont.

“We have long held the vision of a singular IP enterprise for voice, data, and Internet.  We realized that goal in 2015, partnering with Caleidoscope”

The ShoreTel Difference

The ShoreTel PBX provides a common dialing plan.  It extends Unified Communications features to all users at all locations.  It also provides 99.999% availability for the VNA’s mission-critical voice needs.  VNA is a 24/7/365 healthcare provider.

The cost of the ShoreTel solution was competitive with upgrading legacy phone system that would soon be obsolete.  Because of ShoreTel’s efficient design (single image architecture across all sites), the monthly cost for voice, data and Internet services was therefore lowered,

Therefore, VNA can manage and use the telephone system with a single management interface and four-digit dialing between sites.

“Managing the PBX is much easier with ShoreTel.  Everything I need to manage 500+ extensions and 7 locations is located in one portal.”

 Siamak Mojdeh, Telecom/ IT Support

Especially relevant, Caleidoscope chose Comcast Fiber Metro Ethernet services to build a WAN. We also chose to deploy Brocade Layer 3 PoE switching to provide networking for the ShoreTel system across two counties.  Caleidoscope deployed Brocade switches to address VNA’s requirement for continuous service.  Therefore, Brocade delivers carrier BGP routing across redundant Internet connections.  Hence, carrier diversity design is the best practice.   Consequently, our carrier diversity design provides survivable voice, data and Internet connectivity for VNA’s critical operations.

Most importantly,  we provide a truly survivable network design.   Most noteworthy, by negotiating with multiple carriers,  we lower overall recurring expenses.   We negotiate with various carriers so we can obtain the best deal for our customers.  So we did this as part of our services as VNA’s authorized communications solutions provider.

“Caleidoscope is proud to support the VNA of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties’ communications for their technology needs.”
